Work Experience Calculator — Total Years from Your Jobs

← Career StationThe Creative Island · Island 11

Add every job — get your true total experience in years and months, with gaps shown honestly.

How to use this tool

  1. For each job, pick the start date and the end date (leave end blank if it's your current job).
  2. Press + Add job for each position.
  3. Press Calculate experience — overlapping jobs are merged (no double counting), and honest gaps are excluded.

Example

Job 1: Jan 2020 – Mar 2022 (26 months). Job 2: May 2022 – today (52 months). Total = 6 years 6 months, with a 1-month gap shown between them — the number recruiters compute by hand, done honestly.

The formula

sum of merged, non-overlapping date spans → years + months (1 month = 30.44 days)

What the result means

Experience totals matter at application thresholds ('minimum 3 years') and salary bands. This calculator counts only actual working time: two overlapping freelance gigs don't double-count, and career gaps stay gaps — which is fine; a gap honestly shown beats a timeline that doesn't add up.

Frequently asked questions

Do overlapping jobs count twice?

No — overlapping periods are merged and counted once. That's how HR computes it too.

My job dates are month-only, no exact day. What do I pick?

Use the 1st of the month for both start and end — the standard convention when only months are known.

Do internships count?

Yes if they were real work — list them. Recruiters generally count internships toward experience, weighted by relevance.

Is my career history uploaded?

No — everything is computed in your browser.
