LinkedIn Character Counter — Post, Headline & About Limits

← Career StationThe Creative Island · Island 11

Every LinkedIn limit, checked live — posts, headlines, about sections, comments and names.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose what you're writing — each has its own limit.
  2. Type or paste your text — the counter updates live with characters remaining.
  3. Watch the first-line preview — that's what shows before 'see more'.

Example

A 2,800-character post fits (under 3,000) but dies anyway if the first 200 characters are throat-clearing. Better: 900 characters with the hook in line one — that's what the preview box is coaching.

The formula

count = every character, emoji and line break (all count on LinkedIn)

What the result means

LinkedIn's limits are generous; its visibility windows are not. The first ~210 characters of a post and the first ~3 lines of About are what casual readers ever see, so the counter's real job is showing you that preview zone — spend your best sentence there.

Frequently asked questions

Do line breaks and emojis count as characters?

Yes — and most emojis count as 2 characters (surrogate pairs). The counter uses [...text].length, which counts emoji the way LinkedIn's editors do.

Why does my post say 'see more' so early?

That's the visibility window, roughly the first 210 characters — longer posts are cut there until clicked. It's a feature to respect, not fight.

What's the ideal post length?

Data consistently favors 1,200–1,800 characters for reach with a strong first line — but a great 300-character post beats a padded one at any length.

Is my text uploaded?

No — counting happens in your browser.
